Case Studies
Sowerby Bridge Disaster.
In Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, a 30 ton goods vehicle collided with a van and a shop, which resulted in a number of fatalities.
Following the investigation the Company was prosecuted for using the vehicle with defective brakes.
Some considerable time later, Peter Cuthbert was asked to undertake a complete review of the technical, documentary and photographic evidence surrounding this case, following which a decision was made to prosecute the transport manager for corporate manslaughter.
At the subsequent trial at Newcastle Crown Court when he was the Prosecution’s Principal Expert Witness, he provided a full-size working brake assembly model, which the Judge Mr. Justice Hooper remarked was of great assistance to the Court.
